Where Is Alison Redford Now?
My lack of posting the past couple of years was not for want of some opinions; there has been plenty going on with Redford alone to warrant posting. Which is why, as I come back to this blog (having finally found the email account tied to it *rolleyesatself*), my first thought after the Wildrose-crossing-the-floor mess was: Where is Redford now?
To be honest, my online searching has resulted in me having to say: I don't know.
Where she could be sometime in the future is dealing with court and repercussions for illegal activities. The most recent news article I could find was this http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/edmonton/alison-redford-could-face-criminal-charges-review-finds-1.2821834
I suspect there will be enough found to press charges, but not knowing enough about the criminal system and what constitutes worthy evidence, I can't do more than suspect. Well, I can hope, too. While her political career is over and her acts have probably closed many doors to her, it just doesn't feel like enough of a lesson. I do not want revenge. I do believe people can change and I hope she will, but I don't know if this loss of status and career are enough. Not only that but it's important for the general public to know that yes, these things are crimes and yes, you will have to suffer the consequences regardless of who you are.
What sort of consequences?
Well, if she's found guilty of fraud for the whole pretending a plane is full of government folk and it was just to have empty seats, and if that offense is considered as having a value of over $5000, she could end up in prison for up to 14 years. (I don't actually want to see her serving time, I have to admit. The ramifications of that on her daughter...) For the forgery involved in committing the fraud, however, that could be up to another 10 years in prison. This is serious stuff. I'm glad the RCMP are investigating. If they decide there isn't enough evidence, I hope she will still take it as a lesson in what not to do.
