Cabinet announced

Premier Redford has announced her cabinet: http://www.edmontonjournal.com/Lukaszuk+named+deputy+premier/6586941/story.html

(The following is copied and pasted from the above article:)

The portfolios are as follows:
— Thomas Lukaszuk, deputy premier
— Ken Hughes, Minister of Energy
— Doug Horner, Minister of Finance and Treasury Board
— Fred Horne, Minister of Health
— Dave Hancock, Minister of Human Services
— Diana McQueen, Minister of the Environment and Sustainable Resource Development
— Jonathan Denis, Minister of Justice and Solicitor General
— Jeff Johnson, Minister of Education
— Doug Griffiths, Minister of Municipal Affairs
— Verlyn Olson, Minister of Agriculture
— Stephen Khan, Minister of Advanced Education and Enterprise
— Manmeet Bhullar, Minister of Service Alberta
— Heather Klimchuk, Minister of Culture
— Ric MacIver, Minister of Transportation
— Christine Cusanelli, Minister of Tourism, Parks and Recreation
— Robin Campbell, Minister Aboriginal Relations
— Wayne Drysdale, Minister of Infrastructure
— Cal Dallas, Minister of International and Intergovernmental Relations

Lukaszuk is an interesting one to put as Deputy Premier. On the one hand, it seems very questionable given recent news articles (and non-news items passing around) about incidents with his own constituents and the trouble created by him with the attempt at passing Bill 2 (I could say a lot about that, but I won't--at least not yet). On the other, maybe that's exactly why he's there: because what better way to keep tabs on him and keep him on a short leash? I know, I'm probably making unfair speculation here, but if he's gotten voted in and you want to keep him out of trouble, it seems like a good place.

We know the PC party line is that MLAs have to toe the party line. At the same time, getting to know the Ministers in areas that concern you is a very good idea. Develop a good rapport. Bring them your concerns in the most respectful and reasonable way possible. If they can't criticize the government on things, they can still try to address issues within their day-to-day work. They are there to work for us. Let's not let them forget that.
